The Hurricane Arrives!
Welcome back to another weekly blogpost that is definitely not being written on a Tuesday… It’s being written on a Tuesday… ANYWAY! It’s been a whirlwind of a week on my end. Between Art, Youtube, Twitch, editing my butt off, and breaking into new hobbies all the while catching up on stuff I’ve been putting off like upgrading my old phone, cleaning my trading card shelves, and organizing a huge chunk of my apartment, to say I’m tired would be the understatement of the century. This fennec is wiped… BUT IT HAS HAD SUCCESS! After teasing and teasing for way too long, we finally, FINALLY, have another face in the gallery of characters! It brings me great pleasure to introduce, for the first time, none other than… Gale!
Gale
Hailing from the continent of Falador, Gale serves as the Archon of the east and is actually the youngest member on the Archonic Council by several hundred years. Though she has only been an Archon for a short amount of time, she has already left quite the mark on the populace. Between her bubbly enthusiasm and sporty attitude, its rather difficult for anyone to be sad or down in her presence, and she does her absolute best to help everyone around her no matter who they are! Despite her gentle and happy nature, she knows how to throw down with the best of them! Should anyone threaten those she protects, she won’t hesitate to use all the wind power at her disposal and obliterate her opponents with her specially made stave, and between its specially made world tree core and her incredibly potent wind powers, there is no force on the planet, or the known galaxy, that can stop an assault from the Hurricane Archon!
I have been working on this for about a month now, and I’m extremely happy with how she turned out in the end. This is really my first time doing such a complicated character, and while I’m sure its obvious that I’m still an amateur, I would like to remind the jury that I have only been doing digital art for maybe 9 months now? And even then, I haven’t been focused on it, so cut me some slack!
In terms of style, I went with my own on this one. I started off with a sketch on a notepad and edited it until I was happy with it, and then I transferred it onto a digital medium and made a line pass. Then, I spent way too many hours tweaking and refining said lines. After that long process, I did my base color pass, and then quickly did a shadow and lighting pass, which REALLY brought out the shape in the art. Then I spent a long while adding additional features to her to give her some texture, tweaked more of the lines, and experimented with a lot of small things I hadn’t done before. A good example of this was the eyes, which I think I actually did an excellent job of bringing to life for once. Like I said, I’m happy with how she turned out, but, for my next piece, I hope to focus more on the fur and figuring out how to texture it, because boy do I not understand fur!
As for more information on the emerald Archon… Well, I need to avoid spoiling too much. You can read more about her in the Sapphire Universe character page, but at the very least, I will say here that her destiny is very much intertwined with Sapphiria’s, so don’t brush her off as a minor character. She has been prioritized for a reason!
Youtube
Alright, onto other things! On the Youtube side of things, we have been drilling into our Ark series more and more, but Pikmin has also been introduced! These videos will go out with a semi-regular cadence, so keep an eye on bluesky for updates. Recently, I experimented more with shorts and was greatly rewarded for my efforts, so expect more of these in the future, both ones that are carefully curated and ones that are just kinda winged out there.
Coming up next, we’ve got some new stuff coming down the pipes! First of all, my shiny hunts will be coming to youtube as shorts… Once I get off my ass. They are pretty hard to do anything with for long term video content, but it hit me the other day that they are perfect for shorts, so get ready for more of those!
Alongside that, you can fully expect to see something new… TCG openings! There’s a long, long story behind it related to bad things that happened in 2016, but ultimately I am now trying to get back to something that I wanted to complete back then that I got effectively taken from me by nature. This has already started in the form of me trying to complete my Ancient Origins set, but you can expect a few expensive boxes coming down the line soon. Additionally, this will coincide with me getting into a rhythm of buying new sets and trying to fully complete them. Stay tuned to see how far I go with this!
Valley of the Colossi
The next book marker for Tearna’s Journal has been added to the site! Get ready for an adventure into a valley dominated by beautiful plains and trees taller than the mountains! Valley of the Colossi drops next week!
Upcoming Art
With Gale now firmly on the website, the next art piece will be one featuring Sapphiria! This will be a piece set in Nerkossa, the city of the desert, and will obviously be a very landscape heavy piece. I don’t know what it is about the Karasi, but something keeps bringing me back to it, but I am very much looking forward to bringing Sapphiria to life in a new way! When this will be completed, I don’t know, but I would like it to be done in February at the absolute latest so I can maybe put together a collage at the end of the year showing my art from every month! We’ll see what happens!
Conclusion
I think that’s enough for one week! A whole lot has happened, and a whole lot more is coming down the pipeline. Hopefully I can actually get caught up on some things this weekend. It would be nice to not be frantically rushing for once! With all that said, this fennec is tired, so… CHEERS!
