August and my War on Clouds
It’s that time of the week again for yet another blog post, and this week’s post is going to be a little on the quiet side. Since my last post, honestly, not a whole lot has happened, not necessarily because nothing is happening, but because I had some side projects to knock out AND I’m still continuing my war on clouds (more on that later). A lot of my time recently has been eaten up with trying to bring an Ark Survival Evolved server online for friends and family to join. I spent… eight hours? I think it was eight hours at least, trying to set that monstrous thing up, but now that it’s pretty much good to go, all my free time is back on other side projects. I have some fun things I’m working on that aren’t book related (more Ark stuff), and a lot of book related stuff as well. With my major side distractions out of the way though, I’m HOPING that this weekend is THE weekend for knocking some of this out. Sound familiar? I’m pretty sure I said that exact same thing a few blog posts ago…
My War on Clouds
Why am I at war with the clouds? It’s simple. They are HARD to properly paint. After looking at them all my life, I never once imagined they would be so tough to properly bring to life in a digital medium, and I have wasted a LOT of time trying to figure it out. I think I have spent maybe ten to fifteen hours fighting them. That’s a LOT of time for nothing more than a couple of fluffballs. The good news, however, is that my war is mostly at an end. I’ve finished up the clouds for the piece I’m working on, so now I’m moving onto other things at long last. While the clouds aren’t as detailed as I would have liked them to be, they’re still really nice looking, if maybe a bit too fuzzy. Here, have a sample!
From this project, I learned one thing. I like the look of a more realistic art style, but DAMN is it time consuming. I simply don’t have the time to do complicated pieces like this, but I think I have discovered an art style I want to mimic, and it’s from an artist I’ve always been fond of. Nothing to show for this yet, but hopefully within the next few weeks I can show something interesting for it! Speaking of the next few weeks…
A Detour Within
Wow’s next expansion is looming just around the corner, and, as per usual, I will be there and active right at launch. I only bring this up because it will most likely cause a temporary suspension of activity on here, so don’t expect any major updates around late August/early September. That being said, if something happens and my guild implodes, I guess I will probably have a lot of free time then! Either way, I will probably end up streaming this on the 23rd, so feel free to stop by and say hi!
General Updates
There’s not a whole lot more to go over for this week unfortunately. I’ll hopefully have the cloud thing wrapped up before next week, and will then start working on the next project, which will be bringing Atom to life. From there, I have intentions to write another small short story esque thing with a twist, and then work more on twitch stuff. Overall, things are quiet now, but all sorts of gears are still churning behind the scenes! Hopefully at some point I can get an agent’s attention on my clockwork fantasies, but, until then, we continue chugging ahead small steps at a time. Hopefully this week’s blog wasn’t too tremendously boring, but that’s all I really have for now. Next week’s blog should prove ot be a smidge more exciting, so, until then… cheers!
